New Canvas Feature: Student Context Cards

Posted by Alexander Karklins on Mar 1, 2017 7:16:43 PM

The latest Canvas production release (2/18/17) includes several new enhancements. The most useful addition, however, might be Student Context Cards. These cards can be accessed from the “People” tab in your canvas course or other locations where students’ names appear as a link (such as discussion replies). These context cards provide instructors with a snapshot of how each student is performing in a course.

Each card includes the student’s current grade, a summary of their assignments, including missing or late items, and a view of their last graded items. You will also see links to their full gradebook, and detailed analytics. Finally, you will see how each student compares to their peers based on participation and page views. Instructors may also message students directly from the context card.

While this data has always been available to instructors in Canvas, it required some digging and multiple clicks. Now, instructors can quickly view a snapshot of each student and take action, if necessary. Read more about this feature and others in the detailed release notes (https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-8835-canvas-production-release-notes-2017-02-18).
